Mrs. Johnson was born November 23, 1947 in Tippah County, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Tina Smith Gowdy. She received her education in the Pine Grove School System and was married to the late Samuel Eugene "Gene" Johnson who preceded her in death on May 24, 2012. A homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Johnson was employed by the BenchCraft Corporation in earlier years.
Mrs. Johnson will be remembered as a person with strong Christian values and she and her late husband were instrumental in the formation of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Tippah County. She loved the Lord, her family, her community and was known for writing "Love Letters" and words of encouragement to others.
Visitation will continue Wednesday until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Those left to honor her memory include a daughter, Tina Sutherland (John), her son, Robert Johnson (Carrie), one brother, Paul Gowdy (Brenda), five grandchildren, Kellye Grove (Shawn), Cassidy Street (Sarah), Holly Sutherland, Carlin and Samuel Johnson and four great grandchildren, Christian Shawn "CJ" Grove, Jr., Ashlee, Megan and Caitlyn Grove.
Mrs. Johnson was also preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Gowdy and Bobbie Jean Lindsey and two brothers, Robert and Jimmy Gowdy.
Truly, she was a woman of valor, worth a price above rubies and we will always praise her for what she has done.
