 Boyd "Pistol" Morton, 74, resident of Benton County, U.S. Veteran and lifelong resident of the Ashland and Hickory Flat areas, passed away Friday afternoon April 14, 2017 at his residence in Hickory Flat following an extended illness.
  Services, with Military recognition, honoring the life of Mr. Morton will be at 11 AM Tuesday, April 18 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Frazier and Bro. Buddy Sides officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Country Church Cemetery near Ashland.
  Born February 10, 1943 in Benton County, he was the son of the late Major and Pearl Crenshaw Morton. He received his education in the Benton County Public School System and served in the U.S. Army for three years.
  Mr. Morton was a Baptist and was a member of the Old Country Church. Many family members and friends will remember Mr. Morton for his love of the outdoors and animals. He was an active member of the Hickory Flat Saddle Club and participated in the North Mississippi Wagon Train and Trail Riding Association that held annual trail rides during the Memorial Day weekends.
  Mr. Morton was a Benton County farmer and roofer in the area before his retirement. He was married for 47 years to the former Mary Brown who survives.
  In addition to his wife, survivors include 2 daughters, Karen Morton-Moran of Ripley and Janice Hudson (Mickey) of Henderson, TN, 2 sons, Benny Clayton (Holly) of Potts Camp and Lanie Morton (Amy) of Myrtle, 2 granddaughters, Tiffany Payne of Henderson, TN and Emily Moran of Ripley, 6 grandsons, Douglas Payne, Jr. (Kaci) and Michael Morton (Dez) both of Hickory Flat, Christopher Morton (Cheyenne) of New Albany, Rylee Jeter (Lindsay) of New Site, Cody Payne of Henderson, TN and Jonathan Morton of Myrtle and 6 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Francis Frazier.
  The flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Mr. Morton all Veterans for their service to our country. GOD BLESS AMERICA!.
