Carroll Burks "Doc" Waldrop, 68, resident of the Walnut Community, Vietnam Army Veteran and a person remembered by many as having a "straight forward" personality, passed away Wednesday January 17, 2018 at the Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth following an extended illness.
Funeral Services, with Military Recognition, honoring the life of Doc will be at 1 PM Saturday January 20 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton of Ripley officiating. A private family burial will be in New Salem Cemetery near Walnut.
Born in Houston, MS on June 22, 1949, Doc was the son of the late James Frank and Mary Sue Callahan Waldrop. He received his education in the Chickasaw County Public School System and moved at an early age to Texas. Doc was a resident of the Memphis area for a number of years before moving to Tippah County 25 years ago. On March 2, 1991 he married his beloved wife, Elizabeth Howell Waldrop of Hardeman County, TN, homemaker and retired employee of the food service industry who survives.
Doc, with his ever-present western hat, was a Christian and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War Period. A multi talented person with a strong work ethic, he was employed as an industrial welder in the Memphis area before his retirement.
An independent person who "told it like it was", Doc had a love for riding in rodeos, being a member of a motorcycle club in earlier years, hunting , caring for his dogs and horses and last but not least - the love he had for his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Doc will continue Saturday until 1 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife, Doc is survived by his children, Billy Waldrop (Nancy) of Jacksonville, FL, David Waldrop (Janel) of Keystone Heights, FL, Martha Smith of Walnut and James David Mathis (Christine) of Ripley, a brother, David Tidwell of Meridian, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Doc was also preceded in death by one sister.
The American flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Doc and all Veterans for their service to our country....GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

The Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve the Waldrop family and invites you to sign the guestbook and share memories.
