Charles Spight Pannell

Tippah County -   Charles S. Pannell, 87, resident of Morris Chapel, TN, former resident of Ripley and US Air Force Veteran, died peacefully Monday, May 23, 2016 at his home. Graveside Services, with Military Honors for Mr. Pannell, will be at 12 Noon Friday, May 27 at New Hope Cemetery near Ripley. There will be a private family gathering from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home. A resident of Tippah County for over 60 years and a graduate of Ripley High School, Mr. Pannell served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He will be remembered by many as a farmer and bird dog trainer who had a great love for quail hunting. A Methodist, he served for a number of years as Chief Deputy for the Tippah Co. Sheriff's Dept. and as an Officer for the Ripley Police Dept. The American Flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Mr. Pannell and all Veterans for service to our Country. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dolores "Lori" Saleeby Pannell, his sons, John Pannell of Cicero, IN and Gregory Pannell of Ripley, 2 sisters, Elizabeth Rainer (Bobby Carl) of Ripley and Marguerite Fortenberry of Falkner, a brother, Bobby Pannell (Candy) of Ripley, 3 granddaughters, Lauren Freeman (Chris), Elizabeth Davis and Cheyenne Pannell and a great granddaughter, Foley Freeman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Dovie Pannell, daughter, Rhonda Shannon and 6 sisters. The family request that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital, c/o Charles Pannell, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
