Donald Edward Jackson, 78, lifelong resident of the Middleton, Walnut and Pocahontas Communities and U.S. Navy Veteran, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his residence in Middleton following an extended illness.
  Services for Mr. Jackson will be at 2 PM Sunday in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Mitchell officiating. A private family burial is planned at a later date.
  Born July 26, 1938 in Pocahontas, TN, he was the son of the late George Lewis and Pearl Garrett Jackson. Mr. Jackson was a graduate of the Mississippi Public School System and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lexington from 1956 until 1960. On November 6, 1965 in Benton Harbor, Michigan he married the former Judy Newton, his beloved wife of almost 52 years, who survives. In earlier years Mr. Jackson was employed as Utility Manager for the Town of Walnut for 19 years until his retirement.
  A family oriented man, Mr. Jackson will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His family considered him a "Jack of all trades" that enjoyed cruises and traveling.
  Visitation will be from 1 PM to 2 PM Sunday March 19 at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Those also left to honor his memory are: his children, Donna Hembree (Kenneth) of Ramer, TN, Kim Vaughn (Cliff) of Collierville, TN and Keith Jackson (Holley) of Rienzi, MS, his sisters, Elizabeth Hopper Mauney of Tiplersville, Betty Whisnant of Pocahontas, TN and Linda Ragan of Walnut, his brothers, Johnny Jackson, Howard and Harold Bridges, 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lila Bridges.
  The family request that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
  The flag at the Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Mr. Jackson and all Veterans who serve our Country.
