James Edward Pannell, 71, lifelong resident of the Walnut Community, passed away peacefully Friday morning September 1, 2017 at The Tippah County Hospital in Ripley following a brief illness.
  Funeral Services for Mr. Pannell will be at 2 PM Saturday September 9 at The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with longtime family friend, Bro. Buddy Sides officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery near Walnut.
  A Christian, Mr. Pannell was born in Tippah County on October 23, 1945 and was one of ten children of the late Buster "Buck" and Lola Waldrop Pannell. A farmer in earlier years, Mr Pannell was employed by Niles Pallet Company in Walnut until his retirement.
  Mr. Pannell was married September 5, 1987 to the former Kathleen Smith, who survives. A person who loved the outdoors, he enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, visiting with his large family and watching Old Westerns on television.
  Visitation for Mr. Pannell will be from 1 PM to 2 PM Saturday at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  In addition to his wife, Mr. Pannell is survived by his children, Becky Webster (Bo) of Bethel Springs, TN, Doris Velasquez (Jamie) of Beech Bluff, TN, Gene Pannell (Judy Edwards) of Walnut, Jerry Wayne Smith of Ripley, Donald Pannell (Crystal) and Anthony Pannell (Kim) both of Middleton, two step daughters, Leola Carroll (Dean) of Pontotoc and Fallen Doles of Cullman, AL, five sisters, two brothers and seven grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sisters.
