On Tuesday morning, October 18, 2016, Jean Givens, 76, surrounded by her loving family, left this earth at her home in the Golden Hill Community of Tippah County, for her eternal home in Heaven.
Funeral Services honoring the life of this Christian lady will be at 2 PM Thursday October 20 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Darling and Bro. Daniel Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in the Golden Hill Cemetery.
Born in McNairy County, TN on September 26, 1940, Mrs. Givens was the daughter of the late Ellison and Hester Cunningham Coln. She moved at an early age with her family to Alcorn County where she was a graduate of Farmington High School. She was married February 19, 1965 to Wade Givens, her beloved husband for over 51 years, who survives. Mrs. Givens was a former resident of Horn Lake, MS before moving to Tippah County in 1978. She was a former manufacturing company employee and considered her primary occupation throughout life as a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs. Givens loved her church fellowship at the Golden Hill Methodist Church and her presence will be greatly missed. She had a passion for flower gardening and the feeding of hummingbirds at her home. Mrs. Givens life was truly a testimony to the adage "It is better to give than to receive".
A visitation for Mrs Givens will continue Thursday 2 hours before services at The Ripley Funeral Home.
She is also survived by her daughter, Wanda Givens Palmer (Jeff) of Baldwyn, her grandchildren, Matthew Palmer of Baldwyn and Elisa Scruggs (Blake) of Ft. Polk, LA, her 14 month old great granddaughter, Willow Vale Scruggs, her sisters, Jane Austin of Southaven and Shelia Tucker of Dumas and a brother, Charles Coln of Memphis. She was preceded in death by a sister Jo Glisson of Tupelo.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Steve, Mark and Nick Gibens, Jeff and Stacy Givens and Ken Tucker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Coln, Bart Palmer, Chris Givens and Blake Scruggs.
