Jimmy Farrel Taylor, resident of Ashland Community with many family and friends throughout Marshall, Benton and Tippah Counties and well known amateur songwriter and guitarist, passed away Thursday morning December 7, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford where he had been a patient for 6 days. He was 60 years old and died following a two month illness.
Funeral Services for Mr. Taylor will be at 1 PM Monday December 11 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Onnie Ralph officiating and a private burial is planned.
A native of Crittenden County, AR., Mr. Taylor was born February 17, 1957, the son of Gloria "Sissy" Bishop Taylor of Falkner and the late Jimmy Dale Taylor. He moved with his family to North Mississippi at an early age and received his education in the Ashland School System. He was married October 22, 1976 to the former Margie West, a native of Benton County who survives.
Mr. Taylor was a Baptist and was employed in earlier years in the manufacturing industry in Tippah County and surrounding areas. A friend to many, known for his mischievous personality, Jimmy enjoyed writing songs, playing guitar and singing. He had a great love for his wife, children , grandchildren and enjoyed the outdoors that included fishing, deer and coon hunting. He could often be found in his "man-cave" located behind his home, tinkering and repairing anything and everything.
Visitation will be from 11 AM until service time Monday at The Ripley Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, he leaves his daughters, Tammy Byrd (Randall) and Jammie Byrd, both of Falkner and Mary Cunningham of Ashland, two sisters, Diane Johnson (Frank) of Falkner and Rhonda Scroggins (Terry) of Ashland, eleven grandchildren, and a host of friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
