Joan Abby Childers, 81, resident of the Ripley Community and retired Director of Housekeeping at Resthaven Retirement Home, passed away peacefully July 13, 2016 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
   Services Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Childers will be at 2 PM Friday, July 15 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with burial in Marlow Cemetery near Walnut. A native of Hardeman County, Tennessee, Mrs. Childers was a devoted member of the Marlow Church of Christ for many years and had resided in the Benton and Tippah County areas all of her adult life. She was married in 1952 to Mr. Alton Childers who died in 2001. After retiring from Resthaven, she enjoyed the small things in life that included quality time with her family and supporting her church. Grandchildren, sewing and quilting were an important part of her life. Visitation will continue Friday 2 hours before services at The Ripley Funeral Home.Those left to cherish her memories include, her children, Nancy Glidewell (Glenn) and Tommy Childers, both of Ripley, son in law, Buford Gray of Tiplersville, sister in law, Betty Abby of Walnut, brother in law, Sidney Hopkins of Ashland, 8 grandchildren, a large number of great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Joe & Moudie Abby, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gray, sisters, Margaret Ray, Faye Hopkins, Lizzie Brod, Katie Nelson and Ida Hopkins, and brothers, Hester and Curtis Abby.
