 John Francis Carney, Sr., 91, resident of the Walnut Community and proud U.S. Army and Navy Veteran, passed away peacefully Saturday December 30, 2017 in the comfort of his home following a brief illness.
  A Service of Remembrance honoring the life Mr. Carney will be on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2018 with burial to follow beside his beloved wife at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Margate, FL. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Mr. Carney was born July 30, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of the late Francis and Catherine Callahan Carney. A Catholic, he was a graduate of the Holy Cross High School in Brooklyn and continued his education at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He was married on September 24, 1949 to his wife, the former Jeanette Riche' who preceded him in death in 1993.
  During World War II, Mr. Carney first proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and after his tour in the Pacific, he enlisted in the U.S. Army to continue serving his country.
  A native of New York, Mr. Carney served as an independent insurance adjuster for most of his life before retiring 10 years ago. He had been a resident of Florida before moving to Tippah County three years ago to be near his family.
   A family oriented person, Mr. Carney was an avid reader and in earlier years enjoyed traveling that included visiting countries all around the world. His passion was watching the New York Mets Baseball Team on television.
  Blessed with a large family, those left to honor his memory include his children, Patricia Prestano (Dominic) of Ocala, FL, John Carney, Jr. (Lauretta) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Stephen Carney, Denise Ladnier and Robert Carney, all of Walnut, Kenneth Carney (Donna) of Coconut Creek, FL, Paul Carney (Debbie) of Gardiner, NY, a brother in law, Ronald Richie of Long Island, NY, a daughter in law, Dawn Josett Carney, of Florida seventeen wonderful grandchildren, John Carney III (Magen), Christine Zentil (Joe), Lori Wilkerson (Scott), Melissa Prestano, Joseph Prestano (Jaime), Natalie Bosken, Katherine Schneider (Jeff), Alicia Ray (Brandon), Kevin Ladnier, Stephen Carney, Jr., Jacklyn Hodges (Mike), Tabitha Grace (Mike) Kenneth Carney, Jr., Brittany Newman, Heather Olsen (Mike), Lydia Carney and Christopher Carney, twenty four great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
  Mr. Carney was also preceded in death by a son, Philip Carney, a grandson Thomas Collichio, four brothers, Bernard, Frank, Patrick and Thomas Carney and a son in law, Eugene "Sarge" Ladnier.
