John Thomas "Tom" Basham, 79, resident of the Falkner Community, U. S. Army Veteran and much loved father, grandfather and father in law, passed away Friday March 9, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness.
Funeral Services, with Military Honors for Mr. Basham will be at 10 AM Monday March 12 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Hurt officiating. Burial will follow in the Jacobs Chapel Cemetery near Ripley.
Born July 5, 1938 in Ripley, he was the son of the late James E. and Rosie Bell Tucker Basham. Mr. Basham was a graduate of the Buena Vista High School in Tippah County and continued his education while serving in the U.S. Army with three tours during the Vietnam War Period.
Known for his Patriotism and community service, Mr. Basham will be remembered as a person who loved his country, his community and his family. In earlier years he served as an Emergency Medical Technician and a Physician's Assistant in Mississippi locations that included Coahoma County where he served as the county Coroner. A person with a strong faith, Mr. Basham's greatest accomplishments were his family, friends and helping others in need. He instilled his values into his children and grandchildren that will continue to have influence in their lives.
Visitation will continue Monday from 8 AM until service time at 10 AM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Constance Norton (Larry) of The Three Forks Community, Ernest Basham (Alisha) and John Basham II (Kimberly) both of Falkner, one brother Eddie Basham (Wanda) of Oxford and his six wonderful grandchildren, Amanda Brazil, Ryan Caviness, Taylor, Kodi, Josie and Bratcher Basham.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan White and a brother, Ernest Edgar Basham who was a Prisoner of War and declared Missing in Action during the Korean War.
