A beautiful Chrisitan life lived for 96 years, Mrs. Leler Viola Jones went home to be with her Lord & Saviour on Monday February 5, 2018 at the Tupelo Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Jones will be at 2 PM Wednesday February 7 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Robert McKee officiating assisted by Bro.Shane Ray. Burial will follow in Glenfield Memorial Park Cemetery in Union County.
Born January 5, 1922 in Ripley, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Clovis and Annie Cornelius Jackson. Mrs. Jones received her education in the Tennessee Public School System and was married to the late William Elvie Jones who preceded her in death in 1989.
Affectionately known as "Granny" and a homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Jones was a member of the Fountain of Life Church in Ripley, MS. She will be remembered for her love of cooking where she opened her home to countless people over the years to sit down and enjoy a delicious meal. Mrs. Jones loved watching hummingbirds and cardinals but her family was her greatest passion and source of pride.
The legacy that she leaves for her loved ones is her steadfast faith in the Lord, her humble gratitude expressed to God in prayer and the example of how to live as a Christian. Her wonderful memories will be cherished always and she will live on forever in our hearts.
Visitation for Mrs. Jones will continue Wednesday until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Those left to cherish her memory include four daughters, Gearlene Gadd (Aaron) and Lisa Clayton (Tommy) both of Hickory Flat, Gloria Reed (Steve) of Augusta, GA and Sallie Mae Lancaster (Ray) of Olive Branch, one son, Eugene Jones (Ann) of Hickory Flat, fourteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Jones was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Jones, two sons, Sonny and Hinds Jones, two sisters, one brother and two grandchildren.
