Melinda Ann Akins McLeroy, resident of Union County and native Tippah Countian, passed away peacefully Monday morning November 27, 2017 in the comfort of her home in New Albany. She was 47 years old and died following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Melinda will be at 2 PM Thursday November 30 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with long time family friend, Bro. Steve Cohea of Tippah County officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Creek Cemetery near Falkner.
Born April 10, 1970 in Ripley, Melinda is the daughter of Linda Goolsby Akins and the late Harry Delano Akins. She was a 1988 graduate of Ripley High School where she was a member of the Tiger Marching Band. A devoted homemaker, Melinda was employed in earlier years by the Baptist- Desoto Hospital in Southaven.
Melinda was married July 3, 1999 to her beloved husband, Julius McLeroy , a Wal-Mart Distribution employee, who survives.
A Christian, who enjoyed church activities and serving as a Girl Scout leader as long as health permitted, Melinda will be remembered as a person with a" big heart" and an unending love for her family. Her interests were many and included crafts, floral designing, scrapbooking, Facebook, music, visiting the mountains, the beach and her canine pets.
Those who knew Melinda will forever treasure her sweet, sweet spirit. Her illness did not hinder the joy and love of life she shared so generously with those whose lives she touched. Through her trials on this earth, she consistently maintained a peace beyond all understanding which she always attributed to trusting God for everything at all times in all things.
Visitation for Melinda will continue Thursday until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
In addition to her husband, Melinda leaves the joy of her life, her son, Wesley McLeroy of the home, her mother, Linda Goolsby Akins, her dedicated family that include two sisters, Mary Beaty of Olive Branch and Nancy Drewery of Southaven, two brothers, Harold Akins (Phyllis) of Southaven and Bondy Akins (Libby) of Ripley, a step son, Ben McLeroy of New Albany, four step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Marcus Jones.

The Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve Melinda's family and invites you to sign the guestbook and share memories.
