Randy Walter "Walt" Burks, 59, resident of the Ripley Community and a person involved in the trucking industry for much of his life, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday morning May 1, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo following a brief illness.
  Services honoring the life of Walt will be at 1 PM Friday May 5 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Trey South, Bro. Randy Hurt and Bro. Clay Pritchett officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery near Ripley. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Born September 8, 1957 in Ripley, he was the son of the late Vernon and Pauline Syre Burks. Walt received his education at Ripley Public School System. He was a long distance truck operator for 38 years and at the time of his death was employed with MCH Transportation located in Tupelo.
  A Baptist, Walt will be remembered as a spiritual person with a love for home, family and friends. Known as the Burks family "aggravator and jokester", his pleasures included watching movies, golfing and fishing. The love and memories he gave to all he came in contact with will be cherished forever.
  Visitation will continue Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church one hour before services.
  Survivors include: his sisters, Lois Holliday (Cecil), Ruth Jordan, Linda Burks and Betty Crook all of Ripley, his brothers, Charles Burks (Carol) of Ripley and William "Buffer" Burks of Tupelo, a host of nieces, nephews, friends and his beloved cat "Max". He was also preceded in death by a sister in law, Julie Burks and a brother in law, James Jordan.
  Those honored to serve as active and honorary pallbearers will be Joe Tatum, Johnny Johnson, Justin Crook, Phil Shoffner, Joey Holliday, Eddie Smith, Chris Burks, Pat Barnes, Jr., Kevin Burks, Mitch Burks and James Allen Holliday.
