Shirley Bryant Greer, 68, lifetime resident of the Ripley Community and beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and nano, passed away peacefully Sunday morning April 1, 2018 in the comfort of her home following an extended illness.
Funeral Services cherishing the Christian life of Mrs. Greer will be at 2 PM Thursday April 5 at Unity Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for many years. Her pastor, Bro. Ronnie Barefield will officiate followed by burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
Born April 21, 1949 in Ripley, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Tommye Leach Bryant. Mrs. Greer attended Center School and was a 1967 graduate of South Tippah High School. She received an Associate's Degree from Northeast Mississippi Community College and continued her education at Mississippi State University. On May 2, 1970 she married her devoted husband of 47 years, Danny Ray "Rod" Greer who survives.
In earlier years Mrs. Greer was employed by the Tippah County Hospital before becoming an Assistant Supervisor of food services for the South Tippah School District for 24 years before her retirement. A Christian and former Sunday School teacher, she will be remembered for her love of her family, her church, and her community. The greatest joy in her life was being "Nano" to her only granddaughter, Alex. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her and whose lives were blessed by knowing her.
Visitation will continue today until service time at Unity Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, those left to treasure her memory include two sons, Chris Greer and David Greer, both of Ripley, her wonderful granddaughter, Alex Greer of Ripley, three sisters, Martha Warren of Carbon Hill, AL, Connie Butler (Tim) of Chickamauga, GA and Rhonda Jackson (Chris) of Ripley, two brothers, Dalton Bryant (Wanda) of Ripley and Bobby Bryant (Faye) of Walnut and a host of family members.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Rickey Bryant and a brother in law, John Warren.
