William Bowden Grisham, 95, well known resident of the Gravestown Community and a person active for many years in the lumber industry, passed away peacefully Thursday evening February 8, 2018 at The Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living Center in New Albany.
Funeral Services honoring the Christian life of Mr. Grisham will be at 3 PM Saturday February 10 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with his minister, King McCarver officiating assisted by Minister Tom Childers. Burial will follow in Beech Hill Church of Christ Cemetery.
Mr. Grisham was born February 25, 1922 in Tippah County, the son of the late George Gilbert and Tillie Graves Grisham. He received his education in the Shady Grove School System where he was a member of the baseball team. He was married May 27, 1944 to the former Melba Day of Benton County who preceded him in death on November 14, 2013.
Mr. Grisham served as co-owner of Grisham Lumber Co. in Blue Mountain for many years before his retirement.
A devoted member of Beech Hill Church of Christ all his life and known for being a bass singer, Mr. Grisham served as a church Deacon for 25 years and was appointed as a church Elder in 1987 before resigning in 2012. In earlier years, he enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher for both the young and older classes.
Avid travelers throughout their life, Mr. & Mrs. Grisham enjoyed visiting all 48 states as well as other areas. Their membership in the Hill Country Sam's RV Club permitted them to develop lasting friendships with many other travelers. An outdoorsman for many years, Mr. Grisham found pleasure in pheasant hunting and fishing at Pickwick and other area lakes as long as health permitted.
Visitation for Mr. Grisham will be from 12 Noon until 3 PM Saturday at the Ripley Funeral Home.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Vicki Crawford (Clay) , his son Shan Grisham (Diane) both of Ripley, sister in law, Natalie Grisham of Ripley, four grandchildren, Greg Grisham (Heather), Maria Dunn (Ray), Brandon Crawford (Andrea) and David Grisham (fiance-Meridith Clark), eight great grandchildren, Meghan, Garrett, Baylee, Harlee and Ruby Grace Grisham, Cooper and Olivia Dunn, Harper Crawford and a great great granddaughter, Lilith Soul Warren.
Mr. Grisham was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Norman and Victor Grisham.
The family expresses gratitude and many thanks to the staff of The Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living Center for their love, care and concern for Mr. Grisham.
