John Adams Richardson, Jr. Obituary


  On Monday morning, February 15, 2021, John Adams Richardson, Jr., 89, resident of the Dumas Community, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home following an extended illness.
  Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Richardson will be at 2 PM Sunday, February 21 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with his pastor and long time friend, Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Weir's Chapel Cemetery.
  Born March 16, 1931 in Tippah County, Mr. Richardson was the tenth and last surviving child of the late John and Ollie Blythe Richardson. He was a graduate of Shady Grove High School and continued his education at Northeast Mississippi Community College and the University of Memphis.
  Mr. Richardson proudly served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard. He was married October 3, 1959 to his beloved wife, Vivien Anderson Richardson who survives. For 31 years, he was employed with the City of Memphis as an Engineer Designer for the Street and Bridge Division before retiring.
  In 1987, Mr. and Mrs. Richardson returned to Tippah County and were devoted members of Dumas United Methodist Church and he was also active in the Dumas TCDC and American Legion. An avid outdoorsman, he will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, gardening and passing his outdoor knowledge on to his sons.
  Visitation will be Sunday, February 21 from 12 Noon to 2 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  In addition to his wife of 62 years, memories will continued to be shared by his sons, Creig Richardson (Jennifer) of Memphis, Keith Richardson (Dawn) of Laughlin, NV and Phil Richardson (Laura) of Brighton, TN, seven grandchildren, Allen, Ashley, Nicole, Melissa, Samantha, John and James Michael and six great grandchildren, Eli, Braden, Summer, Larry, Phineas and Ryan.
  He was also preceded in death by his nine siblings, Roy, Emmit, Arthur, Eugene, Hardy, Ellis , Marie, Lorena and Francis.
   The number one priority of Ripley Funeral Home during these unprecedented times is the health of our families, our visitors and our community. We ask everyone to support the limited gathering and visitation policies mandated by our government officials. Please comply with the required use of masks and social distancing space of six feet.
