Anthony Russell Robinson, Sr.,74, resident of Desoto County, entered into eternal life on November 20, 2018 at his residence in Southaven following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Robinson will be at 3 PM Friday November 23 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Robinson and William Rainey officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Creek Cemetery near Falkner.
Born December 10, 1943 in Daylight, TN, he was the son of the late Charlie Harris and Thelma Audrey Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a 1961 graduate of Ripley High School and was married on December 14, 1963 to his beloved wife, the former Sandra Goolsby of Falkner who survives.
Mr. Robinson proudly served his country in the United States Nave during the Cuban Crisis and was employed as an independent long distance truck operator for forty years before his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith and loved his Lord, his family and his friends. Mr. Robinson enjoyed collecting knives, antique glass and pottery. His favorite pastime was sitting under the shade tree with a glass of tea and talking with family or friends and thanking the lord for the many blessings given to us to enjoy the outdoors.
"Anyone who ever met Anthony knew he was a country boy at heart with a fun loving, happy soul that loved to whistle, sing, enjoyed all kinds of music but most of all-loved to talk. you could sing a song to his whistling -it was so unique. He had a beautiful voice but always claimed he didn't. He just quoted that he was making a joyful noise to the Lord. He was full of stories of his many adventures throughout his life that included his childhood, hunting, fishing, gardening, bee keeping, military traveling or selling watermelons with Pookie. Just pick a subject and prepare to sit for a while."
Visitation for Mr. Robinson will be from 2 PM to 3 PM Friday at The Ripley Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, those left behind to cherish his memory include, a daughter, Audrey Elizabeth Yates (Robert), two sons, Harris Collins Robinson, Sr. (Tiffany) and Allen Lowery Nelson Robinson all of Desoto County, his grandchildren, Harris Collins "Pookie" Robinson, Jr., Logan Chantil Merkerson, Max Allen Nelson Robinson, Cedee Marie Merkeson, Mazie Roslyn Robinson and Andrew Fischer Robinson, three brothers, Jerry Robinson (Glenda) of Jacksonville, FL, Charles Robinson and Richard Robinson (Valerie) both of McMinnville, TN and a host of family and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Anthony Russell Robinson, Jr., and two grandsons, Anthony Russell Robinson, III and Michael Wayne Robinson.
"We will truly miss Anthony and we know that he is no longer in pain but singing in the heavenly choir with the angels in Heaven. Let's just praise the Lord!"
