Betty Moore Wingo, 78, resident of Blue Mountain and beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend, passed away Thursday afternoon August 30, 2018 at Diversicare Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ripley following an extended illness.
Funeral Services cherishing the life of Mrs. Wingo will be at 2 PM Saturday September 1 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Sweeney of Iuka officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery near Blue Mountain.
Born March 11, 1940 in Tippah County, she is the daughter of Jewel Christine Stephens Moore of Raymond, MS who just celebrated her birthday of 101 years and the late John Tramel Moore. Mrs. Wingo was a 1958 graduate of Buena Vista High School in Tippah County and on June 5, 1958 she married her beloved husband of 60 years, Billy Zane Wingo, retired Vice-President of foreign trade for Brown Shoe Company, who survives.
A member of New Hope Methodist Church, Mr. and Mrs. Wingo lived for a number of years in the St. Louis, MO area during Mr. Wingo's employment with Brown Shoe Company. They returned to Tippah County 6 years ago.
Mrs. Wingo enjoyed the outdoors and will be remembered for her love and passion for "fishing, fishing and more fishing." She was a homemaker throughout her life and also served as a representative in earlier years for The Cloth World Corporation, traveling throughout the area teaching classes for those who enjoyed creating soft sculpture dolls.
Visitation for Mrs. Wingo will be Saturday from 12 noon until 2 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Those also left to treasure her memory include he son , Billy Zane Wingo, Jr. of Blue Mountain, three sisters, Barbara Shedd of Brookhaven, MS, Billie Yates of Blue Mountain and Bonnie Hall (James) of Brandon and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Moore.
