Freddy Loward Shaw, 74, longtime resident of the Ashland Community and retired Bail Enforcement Officer, passed away April 22, 2018 at his residence in Ashland following a brief illness.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 12 PM to 2 PM Tuesday April 24 at The Ashland Church of Christ. Family and friends will give reflections and happy memories of Mr. Shaw's life during this time. Private interment is planned. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
Born June 13, 1943 in Potts Camp, MS, he was the second child of the late G.I. and Kathryn McLeroy Shaw. Mr. Shaw received his education in the Potts Camp Public School System where he was a star player on the basketball team. On April 14, 1963 he married his beloved wife the former Shirley Tucker of Ashland, who survives.
Mr. Shaw was a member of The Ashland Church of Christ and was owner of Liberty Bail Bonds in Ashland before his retirement twelve years ago.
Affectionately known as "Papaw Freddy", Mr. Shaw was a hard working man who loved to help others and always enjoyed the company of his family and friends. He never met a stranger and believed all people deserved a second chance.
Mr. Shaw will be remembered for his love of softball where he coached the "Bounty Hunters" Softball Team for over 20 years and was named Coach of the Year for 3 years. Training Coon dogs and hunting were favorite pastimes.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Lela Skelton (Stephen Charles) of Corinth, Cynthia D. King (Justin Mayer) of Ecru, Cassandra E. Wilburn (Shannon) of Ashland, his "adopted" son, Terry Lawerence of Holly Springs, five sisters, Carol Holmes (Clifton), Peggy Bradshaw (Mike), Connie Berryman (Perry), Betty Ann Peek (Wade) and Sharon Holtzlander, two brothers, Jerry Shaw (Melissa) and Randy Shaw (Kerrie), eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa "Missy" Shaw, two brothers, Richard and Frankie Dale Shaw.
