James Paul Hellums, 70, resident of the Walnut Community and husband of Patricia "Pat" Cates Hellums, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Sunday morning April 16, 2017 at his residence.
Services honoring the life of Mr. Hellums will be at 1 PM Thursday April 20 at Waypoint Baptist Church in Bartlett, TN. with visitation 2 hours before services. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens on Germantown Parkway. The Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born January 14, 1947 in Pontotoc, he was the son of the late Lester and Elizabeth Penatton Hellums. Mr. Hellums was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and later moved to Memphis where he was employed as a Transportation Supervisor for Levi Strauss Corporation before his retirement. He and his wife moved to the Walnut Community ten years ago where they enjoyed a small community closeness and attended Walnut Baptist Church.
Mr. Hellums was a family oriented person who loved the Lord, his grandchildren, his friends and his pets, "Kit-Kat", "Freckles" and "Lil Bit". He will be remembered by those who knew him best as a person who enjoyed humor, the beach and outdoor activities that included deer hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, his children, Christi Clark (Tony) of New Albany and David Hellums of Southaven, his sisters, Shirley Rorie (Lamar) of Hernando and Barbara Hellums of Memphis, and five grandchildren, Blake Gray, Christian Hellums, Anthony, Banks and Jordan Ghosheh.
