John Yancey Hopper, 91, resident of Walnut and retired warehouse supervisor, passed away Wednesday morning June 13, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral Services celebrating the well lived life of Mr. Hopper will be at 1 PM Saturday June 16 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Kevin Lindley, pastor of Ebenezer Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Tippah County.
Mr. Hopper was born February 28, 1927 in Tippah County. He was the third of twelve children born to the late Lindsey Martin and Josie Frances Yancey Hopper. A graduate of Chalybeate High School, Johnny will be remembered as a school student driving the horse and wagon around the community to gather the children for school.
Mr. Hopper was married to his beloved wife , Joan, who preceded him in death on October 28, 2003.
Know as John Y, he was a valued employee of the Ben Edwards Furniture Company in Memphis for almost forty years before his retirement. A Christian, he will be remembered as enjoying the rural way of life, working weekends on the farm and the devotion to his family. He will be missed as a loving father, brother, uncle and "Pop".
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 AM until 1 PM Saturday at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Mr. Hopper is survived by three sons, Joe Hopper (Sylvia), Mark Hopper (Annie) and Jeff Hopper (Sandra) all of Tiplersville, one sister, Betty McCluey of Memphis, one brother, Mansel Hopper (Wanalee) of Tiplersville, twelve grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, David Hopper, four sisters, Louise Richardson, Iva Ione Hopper, Ruby Wilbanks and Peggy Cheshier, five brothers, W.L. , Bobby, David Wayne, Sammy and Monroe Hopper.
