Johnny Charles Gilbert, 61, resident of the Walnut Community and retired truck operator, passed away Saturday morning June 29, 2019 at Diversicare Health & Rehabilitation Center in Ripley following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Gilbert will be at 3 PM Wednesday July 3 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Wells officiating. Private family burial will follow at Cedar Mound Cemetery near the Tippah/ Alcorn County line.
Mr. Gilbert was born March 21, 1968 in Oglethorpe, GA, the son of the late Durward and Audrey Bedwell Gilbert. He was a graduate of Banks High School in Birmingham, AL and was employed as a long distance truck driver for most of his life until retiring for health reasons.
Mr. Gilbert moved to Tippah County seventeen years ago and attended New Life Mission Church. He will be remembered for his love of Alabama football, Atlanta Braves and fishing. He also enjoyed race cars and motorcycles.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 3 from 11 AM until 3 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
His memories will be treasured by his "special girl" and love of his life, Charlep Sexton of Walnut, his children, Jordan Gilbert and Jeremy Cherry (Amanda), both of Birmingham, AL and John David Harris (Nathalie) of Jacksonville, FL, three sisters, Treva Camp of Daytona, FL, Virginia "Ginny" Bittikofer, of Murfreesboro, TN,and Tracey Massey of Huntsville, AL, four grandchildren and his loyal pet canines, Munchie, Lady, Runt, Little Tiny, Scout, Scooter, Izzy, Daisy Mae and Cocoa.
He was also preceded in death by his twin sibilings, Bobbie Gilbert and Sandra Rosser and a nephew.
