Manuel Eugene Hodges Obituary

Manuel Eugene Hodges, 86, resident of Dumas and retired business owner, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday November 18, 2018 in the comfort of his home.
  Funeral Services celebrating the well lived life of Mr. Hodges will be at 1 Pm Friday November 23 at Dumas Baptist Church with long time friend, Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Personal Reflections will be given by his daughter, Renae Loy. Private family burial will follow in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Mr. Hodges was born October 22, 1932 in Dumas, MS and was the oldest and last surviving child of the late Manuel Lagrone and Letha Hall Hodges. He was a 1952 graduate of the Dumas School in Tippah County and was married January 2, 1953 to his beloved high school sweetheart, Janie Kent Hodges who preceded him in death on October 27, 1997.
  Mr. Hodges proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict Period. After his service he moved with his family to Alabama. He was employed in the construction industry throughout Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi for most of his life before returning to Tippah County in 1976. Along with his sons, Mr. Hodges operated Hodges, Inc. in Ripley for many years before his retirement.
  A member of Dumas Baptist Church, he enjoyed the company of family and his grandchildren were a great source of pride. Mr. Hodges was an avid outdoorsman which included his passion for Quail hunting, fishing and in his younger years could often be found squirrel hunting in the hallows around Dumas.
   Louis L'Amour paperback western novels, reading the newspapers front to back and Alabama football were favorite pasttimes. He was a loving father, uncle and Papaw who will be missed every day.
  Visitation for Mr. Hodges will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Friday at Dumas Baptist Church.
  Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Renae Loy (Del) of Natchez, Kent Hodges (Kim) and Brian Hodges (Edie), both of Ripley, Carl Hodges (Casandra) and Robert Hodges, both of Dumas, six granddaughters, Brandy Hodges-Watson, Amy Samson, Loren Lang, Jessica Hodges, Leah Hodges and Katie Jane Bryant, six grandsons,Jeremy Loy, Joel Hodges, Jamie Hodges, Brandon Hodges, Tyler Hodges and Andy Hodges, a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a daughter in law, Cindy Hodges.
  He was also preceded in death by a son, Wade Hodges, a sister, Gloria Ramage and three brothers, Howard "Bud", Gary and Bobby Allen Hodges.
