On Wednesday evening January 2, 2019, Michael Gene "Mike" Herman, well known resident of the Dumas Community, departed this life surrounded by his family at North Mississippi Medical Center following a sudden illness.
  Funeral Services honoring the life of this fun loving , much loved family man will be at 2 PM Sunday January 6 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with his pastor, Bro. Clay Stegall officiating. Personal Reflections will be given by long time friend, Bro. Buddy Sides. Burial will follow in Weirs Chapel Cemetery near Ripley.
  Mike was born March 11, 1951 in Ashland, Kansas and was the son of the late George Michael and Ruth Campbell Herman. He received his education in the Hardeman County Tennessee School System and was married July 10, 1981 to his devoted wife, the former Peggy Smith of Tippah County, who survives.
  Mike was a member of Dumas Baptist Church and had been a resident of Tippah County for over 40 years. He was a valued employee of Hankins Sawmill, Inc. where he served as a lift operator for over 27 years before his retirement 2 year ago.
  An outdoorsman, Mike will be remembered for his robust personality and his love of life that included humor, the Dallas Cowboys, traveling to the Smokey Mountains and caring for his pet goats and chickens. This special man will not be forgotten by his beloved family and many many friends. Rest in peace Mike.
  Visitation will continue Sunday from 12 Noon until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  In addition to his wife of 37 years, he is survived by three daughters, Janice Ginn (Jason), Samantha Groves (Buddy), both of Ripley and Jeannie Luster (Kim) of Tiplersville, four sons, Bobby Herman (Heather), Robby Herman (Amanda) and Sonny Reed (Linda) all of Dumas and Michael Herman of Blue Mountain, three brothers, Bill Herman of Saulsbury, TN, Jimmy Herman(Cindy) of Selmer, TN and Tommy Herman (Barbara) of Whiteville, TN, nineteen grandchildren, Katlyn Gore (Cody), Jewell and James Ginn, Kailey, Bryson, Rylee Beth, Karson, Nathan, Aubrey, Alex and Angel Herman, Maci Groves, Jonathan, Hannah, Caidence and Mason Reed, Brian Brooks, Rushawn and Sha Luster, two great grandchildren, Kaidence Reed and Cooper Gore and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
  He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Ann Smith, Jodie Pannell and Debbie Nelms and one brother, George Herman.
