 Robert Lee Smith, 70, resident of Walnut, former resident of the Cotton Plant Community and lifelong Tippah Countian, passed away Wednesday morning May 23, 2018 at his residence in Walnut .
  Private Graveside Services are planned and burial will be in the Academy Cemetery near Blue Mountain. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Mr. Smith was born October 25, 1947 in the Cotton Plant Community and was the son of the late Paul J. and Mattie McBroom Smith. In earlier years, he received his education in the Tippah-Union School system and was a graduate of Ripley High School. A Christian and member of Academy Baptist Church, Mr. Smith proudly served his country overseas in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Period.
   Mr. Smith was employed by the Benchcraft Corporation in Blue Mountain for many years until his retirement.
  A private and independent person, he will be remembered for his love of outdoor activities that included fishing and hunting.
  Those left to honor his memory include his brothers, Vernon P. Smith (Val) Rohnert Park, CA, Simon D. Smith (Jane) of Blue Mountain and John R. Smith (Marjorie) of Somerville, TN, sixteen nieces and nephews and a host of great nieces and nephews.
  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Earnest K. Smith.
  Memorials are requested to the Academy Cemetery Association, 2251 CR 700, Blue Mountain, MS 38610.
  The American Flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Mr. Smith and all Veterans for their service to our country.....GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
