After a long and full life, Ruby Grace Crowson, 100, resident of the Walnut Community and beloved wife, mother, Granny and friend, went to her heavenly home on April 29, 2018 following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the Christian life of Mrs. Crowson will be at 2PM Saturday May 12 at Baker Funeral Home in Baker, Louisana with Dr. A.W. Smart officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Baker, LA. Local arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
Born January 9, 1918 in Kentwood, LA, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ethel Jones Van. Mrs. Crowson was a graduate of the New Iberia Adult Classes in Louisiana and was married June 5, 1935 to Robert Sidney Crowson who preceded her in death on December 10, 1985.
Two World Wars, The Great Depression, The Holocaust, The Vietnam War and even the first man on the moon had occurred as she lived her daily life. The matriarch of a large family, her life's fame was "homemaker" and she delighted to be involved in every family activity for several generations. Mrs. Crowson was fortunate to have traveled and during her long life had acquired many good friends. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, lived life to the fullest and was grateful for everyday. She will be remembered as a strong willed woman who loved her Louisiana roots, LSU and going to church.
Mrs. Crowson greatest traits were her optimism and keeping a positive attitude through her physical limitations that did not hinder the joy and love that she shared with those she came in contact with. Through her trials on earth she maintained a peace beyond all understanding which she attributed to trusting God.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Barbara Rego (Robert) of Hermitage, TN, Dorothy Le Blanc (Harold) of Baton Rouge, LA and Beverly Sullivan (Larry) of Walnut, MS, 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Mrs. Crowson was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Hardy "Rip", and George Van.
The Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve the Crowson family and invites you to sign the guestbook and share memories.
