Shirley Dean Cox, 81, resident of the Dumas Community and U. S. Army / Air Force Veteran, died Monday morning April 29, 2019 at his residence.
Funeral Services, with Military Honors, will be at 11 AM Friday May 3 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Howard Goolsby officiating. Burial will follow at Boxs Chapel Cemetery in the Pine Grove Community.
Mr. Cox was born September 20, 1937 in Tippah County, the son of the late Marvin Andrew and Ella Mae Givens Cox and received his education in the Eudora Mississippi Public School System. As a young person, he proudly served his country in the United States Army in Panama. He later served in the United States Air Force stationed in California.
Mr. Cox was employed as a crane operator for the Parks & Recreation Department for the City of Memphis before returning to the Dumas/Pine Grove area in 1972.
A Christian, Mr. Cox was a member of the Masonic and Shriner organizations in the area. He will be remembered for his patriotism, enjoyment of friends, cooking and "good food".
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday May 3 from 9 AM to 11 AM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, James Andrew Cox (Martha), of Madison, AL, one sister, Carolyn Thompson of Reseda, CA and two grandchildren, Caitlin and Brittany.
The family request that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Mississippi Shriners Organization.
