Sidney "Pop" Hopkins, 91, resident of the Walnut Community, passed away in the comfort of his home Wednesday evening May 8, 2019 following an extended illness.
Funeral Services honoring the life of "Pop" will be at 3 PM Saturday May 11 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with his nephew in law, Bro. Buddy Sides officiating. Burial will follow in Marlow Cemetery near Walnut.
"Pop" was born June 18, 1927 in Benton County, the oldest and last surviving child of the late Dan and Hettie Cole Hopkins. He received his education in Saulsbury Tennessee Public School System and was employed in the manufacturing industry which included Tyler Refrigeration Corporation in Olive Branch before his retirement.
A lifelong resident of the Benton and Tippah County areas, Pop was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He will be remembered for his love of family, his outgoing personality and "tinkering" around his home. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Visitation will continue Saturday from 1 PM until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Pop's memory will be treasured by two sons, Danny Hopkins (Dianne) of Michigan City, MS and Dale Hopkins (Tracie) of Ripley, four grandchildren, Chad Hopkins (Maria), Tasha Hopkins, Jason Mathis and Camron Hopkins, his best friend, Amy Mardis and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Clara Fay Abby Hopkins, three sisters, Doralee Whitehead, Susie Bobo, Juanita Mercer-Woods and four brothers, Bud, Carlie, Charles Junior and Wallace Hopkins.
