On Monday May 27, 2019, Thelma Janes Hopkins, 90, a native of the Walnut Community, departed this life at her daughters home in Humboldt, TN, surrounded by her three daughters following a brief illness.
Funeral Services remembering the life of Mrs. Hopkins will be at 2 PM Thursday May 30 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony CemeteryatWalnut.
Mrs. Hopkins was born June 1, 1928 in Ripley, MS, the daughter of the late Bryan and Bettie Huddleston Janes. She was a graduate of Walnut High School and was married August 14, 1948 to her devoted husband of 68 years, William Thomas "Tommy" Hopkins, who preceded her in death on August 16, 2016.
A member of Harmony Baptist Church and a homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Hopkins will be remembered for her many years of service to her loyal church, loving the children of her family, children of her church and in her community. Gardening and sharing from the abundance of that garden was a particular passion of hers. Pastime favorites were reading her Bible and quilting. This labor of love included donating hundreds of baby quilts for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville given in loving memory of her great grandson, Thomas Harris McGregor.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1 PM to 2 PM at The Ripley Funeral Home.
Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Carol Scheerer of Helena, AL, Elizabeth Joyce McGregor of Jackson, TN and Betty Parrish (Wayne) of Humboldt, TN, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son in law, Larry Scheerer, a granddaughter, Michelle Scheerer, a great grandson, Thomas McGregor, two sisters and four brothers.
