Bertie M. Jeter, 89, longtime resident of the Ripley Community and much loved wife of the late Rev. Doc Jeter, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, May 26, 2018 at the Tippah County Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Jeter will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton and Bro. Kenneth Harrison officiating. Burial will be at Lowry Methodist Church Cemetery in Tippah County.
Born January 3, 1929 in the Spout Springs Community, she was the daughter of the late Jasper Smith Mauney and Lou Etta Richardson Mauney, early residents of Tippah County. She received her education in the Tippah County Public School System and Itawamba Community College and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Jeter was married for 60 years to the late Rev. Doc Jeter, a longtime United Methodist Church Minister who died in 2007. Rev. Jeter and Mrs. Jeter served faithfully in the Methodist Conference in both Mississippi and Alabama before his retirement.
Mrs. Jeter will be remembered for her love of the outdoors and gardening. Sewing and preparing food for family, friends and church functions was an important part of her life. Known as a independent person and a care-giver to many, Mrs. Jeter enjoyed pets and maintaining her home as long as health permitted.
Those left to honor her memory include, a son Rodney Jeter (Judy) of Corinth, a daughter Sharon Baty (Thomas) of Laurel, a sister Gracie Smith of Ripley, and three grandchildren Adam Lofton (Drew), April Phillips (Mark), and Morgan Hannigan (Thomas).
She was preceded in death by a son Larry Jeter, brothers, Bill, Jasper, C.R., Lee, Fred and Lorenza Mauney, and sisters Rosie Sweatman, Julie Koon and her twin Myrtie Glissen.
Family members are honored to serve as pallbearers and the family request that memorial be directed to the Lowry Cemetery Association 3921 County Road 540 Ripley, MS 38663.
