Charles "Charlie" Edward Carr Obituary

Charles ‘Charlie’ Edward Carr, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and family on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at his home in Madison, Mississippi.

Charlie was born on October 1, 1939, in Sardis, Mississippi to A.L. and Mary Black Carr. He graduated from Sardis High School. He attended Northwest Community College and Delta State University where he lettered in football and then transferred to Mississippi State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.  After graduation, he went to work for Dupont and Futorian Furniture. He was one of the original founders of Bench Craft Furniture Company in Blue Mountain, MS, where he served as Vice President of the company. Mr. Carr became an entrepreneur of various businesses and industries with his wife, Lisa, including Carr Oil, Inc., Gloster 205 restaurant, Crystal Springs Bottle Water Company, Alaco Sales Foam Company, Carr’s Express Dry Cleaners, and many others.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Albany, MS and loved sharing time with his family, traveling, time at the lake, and hunting pheasants and deer with his friends and son, Chase. He was an avid Mississippi State fan and bled maroon and white. He had a heart of gold and loved to make people laugh. He rarely met anyone whom he did not call a friend, and everyone will remember Charlie for his contagious smile, his iconic toasts and dances, and for his love of cologne.  Charlie devoted his life to his children and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Lisa; his four children, Suzanne Richey of Brentwood, TN, Amy Arnold of Batesville, MS, Whitney Harris of Chattanooga, TN, and Chase Carr (Tori) of New Albany, MS, a brother, Clyde Carr of Batesville, MS; eight grandchildren, Olivia Easterwood (Anthony), Ashley Lowell (Brad), Julianna Richey, Herrick Arnold, Madeline, Reed and Walker Harris and Ivory Carr, and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Ann Martin of Batesville, MS, and his brother, Jimmy Carr of Batesville, MS.

The family requests any donations be made to Victory Christian Academy for the Charlie Carr Scholarship Education Fund.
