Born on December 26, 1951, in Tippah County, Mississippi, Mrs. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Marlin “Munk” and Martha Lou Wilbanks Jones. She received her education at Chalybeate High School and, in November of 1968, married the love of her life, Mr. Leland Crum. If you asked Mrs. Dorothy, she would have probably told you she was the better half of the marriage—and anyone who knew the two would have likely agreed. While Leland may have been the head of the house, Dorothy was undoubtedly its heart. Together they shared nearly fifty-seven wonderful years of marriage, building a home filled with love, raising their beloved son, Leland Jr., and creating countless memories that will forever be treasured. Although she worked at Pep for a brief time, Mrs. Dorothy’s greatest calling was being a devoted wife, loving mother, and dedicated homemaker. She had a special gift for making everyone who entered her home feel welcomed, loved, and cared for.

A faithful Christian, Mrs. Dorothy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and any hobby that kept her hands busy. She was also George Jones’ biggest fan and could never resist listening to one of his songs. Above all else, her greatest love was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to spoil them or make them smile. She also had a soft spot for her beloved, slightly overweight dog, Outlaw, who could always count on Mrs. Dorothy to bring him a special treat whenever she and Leland returned home from eating out.

Mrs. Dorothy was as genuine and kindhearted as they come. She was gentle, easygoing, and never met a stranger, always making others feel important through her love and compassion. Her smile was contagious, her laughter comforting, and her love unwavering. While her passing leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, her family takes comfort in knowing her love will continue to live on through each of them. From this day forward, whenever a George Jones song begins to play, it will bring smiles, cherished memories, and thoughts of the wonderful wife, mother, Granny, sister, and friend they were blessed to have, but lost far too soon.

In addition to her beloved husband, Leland, those left to cherish her memory include her son, Leland Crum Jr. and wife, Ginger; her grandchildren, Jenna Mathis and husband, Tyler, Brett Crum, and Wayan Crum; her great-grandchildren, Oakley, Folsom, Phoenix, and Barrett; a special son, Anthony Porterfield; her sisters, Elaine Spencer, Evelyn Dixon, Debbie Turner and husband, Kenny, Vicki Clark, and Loretta Hawkins; her brother, Jerry Jones; her faithful canine companion, Outlaw; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Presley Jones, Marlyn Hugh Jones, William Jones, and Terry Jones.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Mrs. Dorothy’s family.
