Dyra M. "Dottie" Goolsby, 90, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at her residence in Saltillo, MS, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Taylor, MS, on June 13, 1927, to her parents John D.L. Hollowell and Orvilla Coffman Hollowell. She lived in the Union West community until she moved to Memphis, TN, shortly after high school. In their later years Mr. and Mrs. Goolsby were residents of Ripley for 22 years before moving to Saltillo 17 years ago.
Dottie married D. Gailon Goolsby on December 19, 1945, and they had recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary together. She was employed in her early working years in credit management, but her real joy as caring for her family. She loved her country passionately and was involved in the political process by supporting and working for her favorite Republican candidates for many years. She was a life-long Baptist and was a member for First Baptist Church of Saltillo, at the time of her death.
Survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband, D. Gailon Goolsby; two daughters, Rita Hutchens of Saltillo, and Donna Beeler (Earl) of Saltillo; two grandsons, Bradley G. Thomas (Carrie) of Jacksonville, FL, Ryan Todd of Saltillo, MS; a great-granddaughter, Sarah Ann Thomas, and a great-grandson, Jack Clark Thomas, both of Jacksonville, FL; niece Daria Carpenter (John) of San Leandro, CA, and two great nephews, John R. Carpenter and family of Oakland, CA and Dr. Chris Carpenter and family, also from Oakland, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sara Maxine Cerruti, her brother, Samuel Lomax Hollowell, and one grandson, George L. "Trip" Thomas, III.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mrs. Goolsby will be held at 11 AM Friday, February 16, at Pegues Funeral Chapel in Saltillo. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A private graveside service will follow at Tippah Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ripley. Pallbearers will be Walter Billingsley, Rick Feist, Carl Holland, Wayne McCormick, Joe Malinosky, and Dennis Wommack.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 PM Thursday, February 15, at Pegues Funeral Chapel.
The family ask that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
