Born on December 3, 1940, in Tippah County, Mr. Fagin was the son of the late Donald L. Mauney and Gwen Heavner. He received his education from Pine Grove High School and lived a life defined by hard work, service, and dedication. Throughout his years, he worked in many trades, including the factory industry, trucking, electrical work, and welding. He was also a businessman, at one time owning and operating the Dumas Store and laundromat, serving his community with both diligence and pride. In later years, he also served as Justice Court Judge in South Tippah County, a role in which he was respected for his fairness and wisdom.
A proud veteran, Mr. Fagin honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He held the role of Air Commander Division over the Canine Corps, where he not only worked alongside his faithful service dog but also served as a dog trainer, forming lasting bonds and contributing greatly to his unit.
In September of 1995, he married the love of his life, Mrs. Mary Clement Mauney, who survives. Together, they shared a life rooted in love, faith, and companionship.
A devout Christian and faithful member of Saint Matthew Catholic Church, Mr. Fagin’s faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree and, for a time, devoted himself as a monk in the Catholic Church, reflecting his deep commitment to his beliefs and spiritual calling.
In his earlier years, Mr. Fagin found joy in the outdoors—fishing, gardening, and staying active with walks at the gym. As time passed, his front porch became his favorite place, where he could sit, visit, and welcome neighbors and friends. Known for his kind heart and gift for conversation, he never met a stranger and always made those around him feel at home.
Above all, Mr. Fagin cherished his family. Time spent together, especially visits with his son, brought him his greatest joy and left behind memories that will forever be treasured.
Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the legacy of a life well lived—marked by service, faith, hard work, and love—will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him. While he will be deeply missed, there is peace in knowing he has been welcomed into his Heavenly home, reunited with those who have gone before.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
In addition to his wife of twenty-nine years, Mrs. Mary, memories will continue to be cherished by his son, Lee Mauney, his sisters, Annette Clark (Late Joe), Tammie Williams (Ricky), Pam Loveless (George), and Connie Moore (Sammy), his brothers, Benny Mauney (Jessie), and Tony Hargett, his brother in law, David Miller, his stepsons, Brian Charles Watson (Jennifer), Shaun Edward Watson, John K. Watson, and Joseph C. Watson (Jennifer), and his sister in law, Lucy Mendez, along with his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Donna Mauney, one stepson, Adam T. Watson, and one brother-in-law, Carl Clement.
