George Elbert Gilliland Obituary

George Elbert Gilliland, 74, has lost the Cancer fight and gone home to be with the Lord. He passed peacefully on his birthday.

Visitation for Mr. Gilliland will be Monday, March 11, 2024, from 5 pm until 8 pm in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home.  A private family interment will be in the Providence Cemetery in Tremont, Mississippi. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, George Leborn Gilliland of Addison, AL and Clara Ivogene (McCombs) Gilliland of Fulton, MS. His father-in-law Neil Whitworth of Jackson MS. George is survived by his wife and best friend of 42 years, Carralyn Jean (Whitworth) Gilliland. His mother-in-law Karen Whitworth of Madison MS. Also, he is survived by the mother of his children, Edna Ruth (Smithey) Keith of Ripley, MS, his children: George "Sean" Gilliland (Carrie)of Ripley, MS, Dezina Neshea "Shea" Mask (Danny) of Ripley, MS, Talatha "Shere" Carrillo of Tupelo, MS.  8 Grandchildren: George Benjamin "Ben" Gilliland (Janelly) of Ripley, MS, Madison Lee Schweppe (Alex) of Cincinnati, OH, Jarrett Wayne Greer (Gwen)of Colorado Springs, CO, Clara RuthAnn Greer of Ripley, MS, Wesley "Bryson" Garner of Belden, MS, Elizabeth "Jewel" Phillips (Cam) of Columbus, MS, Chadwick "Noah" Sartin of Tupelo, MS, Sally Neshea Sartin of Baldwyn, MS, 3 Great Grands: Malachi Jax Greer of Colorado Springs, CO, Rhiannon "Liza" Phillips of Columbus, MS and George Royce Gilliland of Ecru, MS.

George lived a full adventurous life. From his early years in the pawn shop business, bail bondsmen and bounty hunter to his love for guns and photography. His career paths always followed his passions. He spent 25 years in the Florida Keys until retiring to Lawrenceburg TN in 2014. Since then, he has loved caring for his cats, gardening and spending time with his wife and family. He has seen many good things and been to many good places. He will be missed as a Husband, a Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Cat Dad. He just wanted happiness, for All that loved him and all that he loved!
