“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:28 On Monday, February 10, 2025, Gloria Naomia Bates Davis, 88, passed away at her residence in Ripley, surrounded by her loved ones.

Burial will be in the Golden Hill Church Cemetery.
Born September 15, 1936, in Tippah County, Mrs. Naomia was the daughter of the late Manuel H. and Mary Elizabeth Bates Brock. She received her education from Pine Grove school and on November 10, 1962, she married her beloved husband, Milton Davis. She was a faithful member of Golden Hill Methodist Church where she worshipped and on Wednesday nights, she enjoyed attending New Harmony Church where her and Milton would study God’s Word. Although her health didn’t allow her to attend every service, her love for her Lord was evident to see in her daily life as it consisted of listening to the Gaither Vocal Band and The Goodman’s, attending gospel singings often, and praying for her family continuously.
Beyond Mrs. Naomia’s spiritual pursuits, she was blessed with talented hands and a green thumb. Favorite past times included working in her yard and growing roses, as the red and coral colors were among her favorites, and planting a multitude of crepe myrtle bushes, although her family didn’t enjoy the task of mowing around them. Above all, Mrs. Naomia’s love was her family, as she enjoyed sharing time with those she loved most. Until we meet again, we’ll carry her with us, for her love shaped who we are, and it will guide us for the rest of our lives until we’re reunited again in Christ.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of sixty-two years and three months, Milton Davis, two sons, Michael Davis of Ripley, Timothy “Mark” Davis (Pat) of Walnut, two brothers, Alvie and Harold Brock, four grandchildren, Misty, Clay, Hannah and Callie Davis, three great-grandchildren, Zachery and Brandon Cummings and Joshua Davis, and one great-great-grandchild, Waylon Cummings, a host of nieces and nephews, three special cousins, Travis Bates, Flora Bates Vaughn and Mary Ann Bates. The Davis family would also like to send a special thanks for all the love and care shown by Theresa Koon Waldon.
She is preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Brock McKay and Lilian Marie Brock.
Those honored to serve as Mrs. Naomia's pallbearers are Brandon and Zachery Cummings, Roger and Steve Brock, Norman Moore and Randy Vuncannon. Honorary pallbearers are Travis, James Edward and Milton Bates, and David Maynard.
