John Stewart Obituary

John "Jack" Lemuel Stewart, 91, resident of the Canaan Community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Funeral Services honoring the life Mr. Stewart will be at 1PM, Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Canaan Baptist Church in Benton County with Bro. Paul Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Canaan Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart was born on January 7, 1931, the son of the late John and Euphamia Lucas Stewart and was a graduate of Memphis Tech High School. He enjoyed serving as a game warden in the various counties of Shelby, Tipton and Fayette before pursuing a new career path in sales. After retiring in 1991, Mr. Stewart worked in taxidermy in the Canaan Community, were he and his wife moved to in 2009.

A Christian and member of Canaan Baptist Church, Mr. Stewart will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman with an excellent sense of humor. Hunting, fishing, camping and fish fry gatherings with his family were a few activities that Mr. Stewart appreciated the most in life.

The family and friends of Mr. Stewart will miss the true family man and man of faith that they could always count on him to be. They will always cherish the time well spent with him.

Visitation will be from 11AM until 1PM Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Canaan Baptist Church.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 42 years, Barbara Akers Stewart, five daughters, Linda Crews of Memphis, TN, Karen Cole (Kevin) of Portland, TN, Lori Blackburn (Ronny) of Byhalia, MS, Angie Brewer (David) of West Memphis, AR and Sara Brean of Ashland, MS, a son, Steve Stewart (Carrie) of Sterling, AK, a daughter in law, Martha Stewart, Pensacola, FL 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He is also preceded in death by a son, John Stewart, and a brother, William Robert Stewart.

The family request donation be directed to the following charities, Feeding the Future Mississippi "A Non Profit Organization founded by a great grandson, Braeden Foldenauer", Canaan Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
