John "J.W." Wingo Obituary

His Lord said unto him, well done, thou good and faithful servant...enter into the joy of your Lord.~Matthew 25:21

On the beautiful snowy morning of January 15, 2024, John J.W. Wingo, 85, resident of Ripley and retired business owner and operator of Wingo Pest Control, entered into Heaven from the Tippah County Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be from 11AM to 2 PM Thursday, January 25 at The Ripley Funeral Home with burial following in the Falkner Cemetery

Mr. Wingo was born August 16, 1938, in Tippah County, the son of the late Dewey and Ozell Boyette Wingo. He was a graduate of the Tippah County School System and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960-1963. On September 5, 1969, he married the apple of his eye, his beloved wife, Bettye Jean Thompson Wingo, who preceded him in death on November 16, 2018.

A Baptist, Mr. Wingo will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved to help others and always enjoyed the company of family and friends. Many words could be chosen to characterize him, as he was selfless, funny, positive, easy-going, lighthearted and had "the gift of gab". Favorite hobbies include, eating, listening and singing country and gospel music, watching "Wheel of Fortune" and Westerns on television, playing games on his phone and in earlier years, was known as quite the "pool shark". Those who new Mr. Wingo best will treasure their memories of his ready smile, sense of humor, abundant kindness, extreme generosity, and above all, his complete devotion to his family.

Memories will continue to be shared by a daughter, Sue Love of Falkner, three grandsons, Carlos Escobar, Bradley Bullock (Barbara) and Joey Bullock (Michelle), four great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, his grand-dog, B.B., his in laws, Dorothy Parker of Sumrall, CB and Patricia Thompson of West Point, Buddy Tidwell of Tupelo and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
