On Friday, April 28, 2023, Johnny Dean Ferguson, 76, resident of West Memphis, AR, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Ferguson will be at 1 PM Thursday, May 4 at Canaan Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 11 AM. Bro. Paul Adams will officiate and Personal Reflections will be given by family and friends. A Graveside Service will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Ferguson was born August 23, 1946 in Dermott, AR, the son of the late William Nolan and Ruby Gladys Mayberry Ferguson. After receiving his education in the Overton Public School System in Memphis, he began his hard-working, family man career.
Mr. Ferguson started his journey as a paper boy, throwing newspapers along a route, upgraded to flipping burgers and eventually became a farm manager. His first venture came co-owner of U.S. Custom Harvesters, Inc. in which he helped individual farmers harvest their crops from Oklahoma to Montana. Eventually he became Vice-President of the Haygood Corporation, was superintendent of Skyfield fiber-optic sites in Chicago and finally, as long as health permitted, he worked alongside his son with Doortech Garage Doors installing doors for self-storage companies.
While not working, Mr. Ferguson enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, golf, trips to the Casino, watching Westerns on television and reading western books by his favorite authors Louis L'amoure and Zane Grey.
Memories will continue to be shared by his children, Kelley Meeks (Billy) of Mesa, AZ, Wes Ferguson (Kim) of Cartersville, GA, Jimmy Ferguson (Patricia) of Byhalia, MS and Michael Ferguson (Ana-Liza) of Pontotoc, a sister, Donnie Jean Chambers (Robert) of Hickory, NC, a brother, Billy Ferguson of Hot Springs, AR, twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Goodwin and a brother, Timmy Joe Ferguson.
