Obituary

Larry Scott McMullen, 58, resident of Myrtle and former resident of Ripley, departed this life on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven.

Funeral Services, with Military Honors, will be at 1 PM Friday, September 1 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time Friday, September 1 at The Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery near Ashland.

Born January 16, 1965 in Benton County, Scott was the son of Laura Harris McMullen of Holly Springs and the late Larry Gene McMullen. He received his education at Ripley High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1983 until 2012. On July 6, 1994, he married his beloved wife, the former Dana Brady who survives.

A Christian, Scott will be remembered for his strong personality, his prankish nature, loving heart and his "always right" charisma. Grilling, smoking BBQ, fishing, watching westerns and old army movies in his rocking chair while drinking a Diet Coke were just a few of his favorite pastimes. Scott loved his family and every opportunity to share time with his much adored grandchildren. Scott was a top-level performer in all things. His achievements were well-earned and he spoke so highly and fondly of his family. Knowing he was serving his family brought him endless joy, and his service will not be forgotten.

In addition to his wife of 29 years, memories will continue to be shared by three daughters, Toni Thompson (Michael) of Olive Branch, Niketa McGee (Jermaine) of Myrtle and Jesse Hartfield (Rashad) of New Albany, one son, Wesley McGee (Katie) of Water Valley, one sister, Jan McMullen Pipkin (Carl) of Potts Camp, one brother, Chris McMullen of Blue Springs and eight grandchildren, Destiney andJoshua Foster, Kiernan and Kyrie Thompson, Alaina McGee, Conner Hartfield, Kaiden and Brinleigh McWilliams.
