Nylene Juanita Mauney Obituary

Nylene Juanita Mauney, 91, well known resident of the Dry Creek community in Tippah County, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Wednesday July 18, 2018 at Ripley Funeral Home with long-time pastor and family friend, Bro. Robert Walker, and current pastor, Bro. Marvin Robbins, officiating. Personal remarks will be given by her grandson, Clint Stroupe. Burial will be at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 17 at Ripley Funeral Home and will continue Wednesday July 18 from 12 noon until service time.
Born March 28, 1927 in Tippah County, she was the youngest of eleven children of the late Arthur F. and Virgie Grisham Anderson. Mrs. Mauney began her education at Dry Creek School and was a graduate of Pine Grove High School.
She is survived by her husband, T.C. Mauney, Jr. They were married April 26, 1947 and were an example of marital devotion to all who knew them. Faithful until the very end, her husband only rarely left her side.
Mrs. Mauney worked in the schools of Tippah County for over thirty years. She began her career as a classroom teacher at Dry Creek. Later she was an assistant teacher at Pine Grove Elementary School, an early childhood teacher at Prather Headstart, an assistant teacher at Ripley Elementary, and eventually returning to Pine Grove as the school secretary until her retirement. She was always known as a person who loved children and demonstrated this love through her daily actions.
Her faith was extremely important to her. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, since 1958. She sang in the church's choir and quartet. She served in various roles at the church over these years, including church clerk and teacher. After the death of her oldest son, Sgt. Gerald C. Mauney, while in action in Vietnam, the church and family formed the Gerald C. Mauney Memorial Scholarship at Blue Mountain College. Via this scholarship, the church has helped over 44 individuals in their pursuit of a career in full-time Christian service vocations. Mrs. Mauney was one of the very few remaining Gold Star Mothers in Tippah County. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Gideon's International and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mrs. Mauney will be remembered as a friendly and social person, always having fun and enjoying other people. One of her main pastimes was working in her yard, especially with her flowers. Another hobby was her needlework, and she spent many hours producing excellent examples of cross-stitching. However, her main enjoyment was spending time with her close and extended family members.
In addition to her husband of over 71 years, T.C., she is survived by one daughter: Donna Daniel (Freddy) of Saulsbury, TN and one son: Keith Mauney (Cindi) of Dry Creek; two granddaughters, Lady Jayne Price (Hap) of Southaven and Alivia Brewer (Ben) of Guntown; five grandsons: Clint Stroupe (Dawn) of Dumas, Justin Mauney (Alisha) of Dry Creek, Garret Mauney (Abby) of Dumas, Lucas Gaillard of Dumas, and Ben Gaillard of Dry Creek; and ten great-grandchildren: Viktoria and Ethan Davenport; Madison Clint, Nora Beth, and Georgia Claire Stroupe; Mackenzie Inmon; Avery Mauney; Gabe and Gavin Roberts; and Maddux Mauney.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gerald C. Mauney; six brothers: Euclid (Jimmie), Troy (Alene), Clelon (Ophie), Orbry, Woodrow (Christeen), and Corbett (Vivian) Anderson; and four sisters: Alverta Garrett (Leland), Mercedes Davis (Preston), Wilma Koon (Edgar Mark), and Garmelia Crawford (Wayne).
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to prayerfully consider a donation to the Gerald C. Mauney Scholarship Fund, care of Concord Baptist Church, 5490 CR 601, Booneville, MS 38829 or a memorial donation to the Bible Fund of Gideons International.
