Wilma Mathis Mauney

Wilma Virginia Mathis Mauney, 91, went to her eternal home on August 1, 2023, at her home after a brief illness.

Funeral Services honoring Wilmas life will be 2 PM Sunday, August 6, 2023, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Richie Hatcher officiating. Visitation will be 9 AM until Service Time Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tippah Memorial Gardens.

Wilma was born on January 25, 1932, to Wardie Mathis and Birdie Studdard Mathis. She attended Peoples School. She married Russell Mauney on November 1, 1948. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

Wilma was a factory worker until her retirement. After retiring, she began babysitting a couple of children. That was the beginning of many years of babysitting children who still referred to her as "Mamaw".

Wilma loved the outdoors. She planted many seeds just to watch them grow into fruits and vegetables. She could often be seen hoeing and gathering vegetables with the dog and cat following close behind.

Those left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Debbie McAlister (Larry), a grandson, Dustin McAlister (Lindsey), two great grandsons, Nash McAlister and Finn McAlister all of Ripley. She was also survived by several cousins.

She is also preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
