Winston Wade Huddleston Obituary

“Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:27

Winston Wade Huddleston, 85, passed peacefully at home Monday morning November 4, 2024, with his four girls, Linda, Laura, Edna, and Myra, and family faithfully by his side, waiting in full support and love as he finished his race.

Funeral services honoring Mr. Wade’s life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2024, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with Bro. Geoff Mabe and Bro. King McCarver officiating, and his grandsons Bradley Bond sharing an opening prayer and Kyle Bond leading the singing. Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Tiplersville Cemetery.

Born in Tippah County, Mr. Wade was the son of the late Charlie Wesley and Lillian Bernice Rogers Huddleston. He was a graduate of Palmer School, where he was salutatorian. He laterattended and received a certificate from Memphis School of Preaching. A veteran proudly serving in the National Guard, Mr. Wade married the love of his life, Mary Sue Parks on January 22, 1960. Together they built their home in the Falkner Community, supporting and raising four daughters. Mr. Wade was a quiet, humble man who always provided for his family. He worked with Sears, Bench Craft, Biltrite Rubber Plant, Pine Grove High School as a bus driver, and Ashley Furniture as a security guard. From producing a plentiful vegetable garden or cutting firewood for himself or neighbors, he was a pillar in his community and was always willing to help others.

A Christian and devoted member of Tiplersville Church of Christ, Mr. Wade was determined to be a light to this world so that others would come to know the love of Jesus and His saving grace. To know him, was to love him. His gentleness and welcoming spirit were felt by all, and he walked the path of righteousness, letting the Lord’s love show in everything he did. Many cherished memories were made at “Papaw’s house” where love overflowed to everyone who walked in the door. As a proud Papaw, he would utilize any and every opportunity to tell his family that he loved them and to show his love by hugging, singing, and reading to his grand- and great-grandchildren. Mr. Wade was a role model to his family, embedding Christian values, hard work ethics, and unwavering love in all of them.

Although our hearts break and grief is never ending, we know so is God’s love. He has a bigger plan and is still good, for we are thankful today that Mr. Wade has been healed. We are certain he heard those wonderful words “Well done thy good and faithful servant,” and we find comfort knowing he and Mrs. Sue, hand in hand, are spending eternity in heaven, sitting at the feet of Jesus. How lucky we were to have had something so great, that saying goodbye is so hard.

Those left to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy include four daughters, Linda Bond (Kurt), Laura Green (Scott), Edna Griffin, and Myra Simmons (Stacy); one sister, Judy Huddleston; four brothers, Fulton Huddleston (Martha), Billy Joe Huddleston, Danny Huddleston (Sandy), and Ronnie Huddleston (Debbie); his grandchildren Kyle Bond (Brittney), Bradley Bond (Jessica), Tyler Green (Candie), Mary-Liz McDowell (Jonathan), Olivia Griffin, Abby Simmons, and Emily Simmons; his great-grandchildren Liam, Joseph, Henry, Sarah Frances, Conner Wade, Maggie, Thomas, Chloe, Taylor, and one on the way, Rowan Parks; and a host of family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mary Sue Huddleston, he was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mike Griffin, and his three brothers: Jerrell Conrad Huddleston, Jimmy Don Huddleston, and Aubrey Guy Huddleston.

The family would like to express special thanks to Gentiva Hospice of New Albany, CenterWell Home Health, Mr. Wade’s church family, and the community.
