 Hester Crum Holmes, resident of the Jericho Community in Union County and longtime Tippah Countian, completed her journey here on earth Saturday morning May 20, 2017 at the Tippah County Hospital where she had been a patient for one week. She was one of the areas oldest residents and died at the age of 98 following a brief illness.
  Services honoring the well lived life of this beloved lady will be at 2 PM Monday May 22 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with her former pastor, Bro. Bill Baker of Ripley officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery near Ripley.
  Born June 12, 1918 in Tippah County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph "Jack" and Effie Bryant Crum. Mrs. Holmes received her education in the Public School System of Tippah County and was married September 17, 1942 to Clarence S. Holmes, Sr., a World War II Army Veteran who preceded her in death on April 21, 1991.
  A dedicated homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Holmes was a resident of Tippah County for many years before moving to the Jericho Community to be near her daughter after the death of her husband. A Christian, she was a member of West Ripley Baptist Church and was considered the matriarch of her large family that included 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
  Mrs. Holmes had a great passion for quilting and found much pleasure in cooking, canning and working in her vegetable garden as long as health permitted.
  Visitation will be Monday from 12 noon until service time at The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter, Helen Boone (David) of Baldwyn, her son, Clarence "Butch' Holmes, Jr. of Ashland, a sister, Golden Barkley of Ripley and her much loved grandchildren , great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son, J.L. Holmes, three sisters, Totsie Holmes, Louise Ketchum and Natalie Linville and two brothers, Perry Lee Crum and Vardie Crum.
  Pallbearers will be Steven and Shannon Boone, Lee, James Terry, Joe and John Holmes and Eddie Barkley.
  The American Flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors the husband of Mrs. Holmes and all Veterans for their service to our country....GOD BLESS AMERICA!
