Josephine Rutledge Thornton

Cassie Thonrton, 83 Josephine Rutledge Thornton, 83, resident of the Ashland Community and beloved wife of the late Rev. Bruce Thornton, longtime Baptist Minister and WWII Navy Veteran, departed this life Friday, Nov. 13 ,2015 at the Ashland Health & Rehabilitation Center. A Service celebrating the Christian life of Mrs. Thornton will be at 2 PM Sunday, Nov. 15 at The Canaan Baptist Church where her husband served as pastor for 13 years. Burial will be in the Canaan Cemetery and a visitation will be at the church one hour before services. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Mrs. Thornton enjoyed serving as a minister's wife in Mississippi for many years and will be remembered for her love of cooking, gardening, annual family Easter egg hunts, and being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.
  A native of Benton Co. and daughter of the late Andy Rutledge and Dora Cook Rutledge, she is survived by her children, Christine Webb (Larry) of Ashland, Bonnie King (Jimmy) and Gerald Thornton (Casey) both of Bartlett, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
