 Nellie J. Hopper Robbins, 84, resident of the Chapman Community and lifelong Tippah Countian, passed away Sunday afternoon April 30, 2017 at the Tippah County Hospital in Ripley following a brief illness.
  Services honoring the Christian life of Mrs. Robbins will be at 11 AM Wednesday May 3 at Turners Chapel Baptist Church where she was a long time devoted member with her pastor, Bro. Howard Goolsby officiating. Burial will follow in the Criswell Cemetery near Ripley. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Born August 4, 1932 in Tippah County, she was the daughter of the late Leonzie Hopper and Lula Richardson Thurmond, early residents of the Chapman Community. She received her education at Centre School in Tippah County and was married to James Russell Robbins, a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served his country during the WW II period. Mr. Robbins preceded his wife in death on March 18, 2001.
  A devoted homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Robbins was associated with her brother for many years in the operation of Mauney's Grocery in the Chapman Community. After her retirement she continued to enjoy her friends by serving as a Sales Clerk for Fred's Inc. in Ripley. She had a lifelong passion for sharing her flowers, homegrown vegetables and her Southern cooking with her family, friends and church members.
  Mrs. Robbins will be remembered for many things; her faith in God, the love she had for her church, her gracious and welcoming nature, her involvement in her community and her unwavering love and loyalty to her friends and family. Those closest to her will not soon forget this beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
  Visitation for Mrs. Robbins will be Tuesday evening at The Ripley Funeral Home and will continue Wednesday at the church beginning at 8:30 AM.
  Those left to cherish her memory are: her daughter, Connie Walker (Randy) of Potts Camp, her son, Larry Robbins (Norma) of New Albany, a sister, Shirley Russell (Doyle) , a brother, Billy Hopper (Darlene) both of Jackson, MS, 3 grandchildren, Rusty Robbins (Anna), Ryan Robbins and Haley Grace Walker and 4 great grandchildren, Camryn, twins, Easton and Nolan and McKinely Robbins. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lavern Hopper and Lee Thomas Thurmond.
