Ripley - R. C. Gattis, 87, resident of the Ripley Community and retired supervisor for the Arkansas Power and Light Company, died Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Tippah County Hospital. Services honoring the life of Mr. Gattis will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 20, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with interment in the Tippah Memorial Garden Cemetery. A native of Tippah County, Mr. Gattis was born February 20, 1928, to the late Paul R. Gattis and Katie Mae Cook Gattis. He was a member of the Turner's Chapel Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing. He had been an active member of Arkansas Masonic Lodge Chapters. After returning to Tippah County, Mr. Gattis operated his painting contract business until his retirement. He is survived by his sisters, Kathern Borden (Leon), Pauline Bridges and Jessie Mae Newby; his brothers, Tate (Wanda), Charlie (Mary Ruth), James, and Thomas Gattis (Clara), all of Ripley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Crestman Gattis; brothers, Elbert and Leroy Gattis; and sisters, Ada Green and Ruth Sweatman.
