Carolyn Barnes Melton, 71, resident of the Walnut Community, left this earth on Thursday afternoon March 23, 2017 at her residence after an extended illness.
Services celebrating the life of Carolyn will be at 2 PM Sunday, March 26 at New Covenant Christian Assembly Church at Tiplersville where she was a member. Bro. Titus Mathis, pastor of the church will officiate and burial will follow in County Line Cemetery near Walnut. Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
Visitation will continue Sunday at the church until service time.
Carolyn was born February 28, 1946 in Tippah County, the daughter of the late Josephine Shaw and Huey Lymon Barnes. In earlier years she was a resident of Memphis and was the owner of the New Market Cafe in Memphis before returning to Tippah County 20 years ago.
Carolyn was an unlicensed therapist and was seen as a "General Counselor of all those seeking". She would literally give the shirt off her back if you needed it. Her home was always open to those needing a place to stay and anything she had was yours: shelter, food, money, love, advice, an ear for listening or open arms for a loving hug. Although she had a very large family who she loved very much of 15 brothers and sisters, 3 children, 10 grandchildren and so many nieces and nephews: she only loved two men in the world: Elvis Presley and Everett Melton the latter who she married.
Carolyn possessed many virtues and was blessed with a productive and fruitful life on the earth. She is especially grateful to her niece Janet and Steve Mitchell who provided care for her until the very end. She has gone home to be with her father and mother.
Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Charles Bradshaw, Jr. (Mounia), of Leesburg, VA, Duane Bradshaw (Kim), of Walnut and Chance Bradshaw (Maria) of Seneca, MO, 2 sisters, Kay Hall (Russell) and Annie Hall (Ray), both of Walnut and 10 grandchildren, Amira, Alexander, Alina, Tahneshia, Charles III, Cameron, Courtney, Cassidy, Cody and Dylan. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, R.C. Barnes (Margie), Travis Barnes (Willa Dean), Junior Leroy Barnes (Joe Willy), Johnny Barnes and Aaron Barnes, sisters, Mary Tucker (John Henry), Fay Tucker (Byrd), Billy Doris Sexton (Ray Daniel), Betty Woods (William), Dorothy King (Otis), Patsy Spencer (Junior) Rosie Pennington (James) and Mildred Ashmore (Albert).
Those honored to serve as active and honorary pallbearers are Kenneth Bass, Victor Barnes, Troy Barnes, Johnny Hall, Bill Hall, Wayne Stuart, Dale Woods and A.J. Flores.
The Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve the Melton family and invites you to sign the guestbook and share memories.
