Tippah County -   A joyful life beautifully lived for 97 years, Maxine Tatum Bell, lifelong resident of the Walnut Community, passed away peacefully Sunday morning September 10, 2017 at the Mississippi Care Center in Corinth following a brief illness.
  Services cherishing the long life of this Christian lady will be at 11 AM Wednesday September 13 at the Ebenezer Methodist Church near Walnut. Her longtime friend, Bro. Doc Shelton will officiate assisted by the church pastor, Bro.Kevin Lindley. Burial will follow in the Bell private family plot adjoining the Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Bell will begin at 5 PM Tuesday evening September 12 at Ebenezer Methodist Church.  Arrangements will be provided by The Ripley Funeral Home.
  Born April 10, 1920 in Tippah County, she was the daughter of the late William Peyton and Sarah Childs Tatum. Mrs. Bell was a graduate of Peoples High School in Tippah County and was a lifelong resident of Tippah And Alcorn Counties. On September 7, 1938 married her beloved husband, W. Alva Bell who preceded her in death on January 4, 2000.
  A devoted homemaker and a farmer at heart who enjoyed reminiscing about "days of old", Mrs. Bell will be remembered for her love of the outdoors. She was blessed with a "green thumb" and found much pleasure working in her flower and vegetable gardens. The Matriarch of her family for many years, "Mamaw" enjoyed nothing more than being with her family and surrounded by her wonderful great grandchildren.
  Visitation at the church will continue Wednesday one hour prior to services.
  Those left to honor her memory include her sons, Thomas Mack Bell (Connie) of Stephens City, VA and William Alva Bell (Mickey) of Walnut, her grandchildren, Douglas Bell and Courtney Wilbanks (Chuck), both of Walnut and Terri Beth Shelton (Mike) of Ripley, her great grandchildren, Taylor and Peyton Bell, Santana and William Shelton, Catherine, Caroline and Jacob Wilbanks and special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bell was also preceded in death by her step-father, Henry Box, her sisters, Susan Hall (Charles Roan) and Rowena Brody (Malcolm), a brother, Hugh "Buck" Tatum (Ella).
  The family request that memorials be directed to Ebenezer Methodist Church, c/o Kelsie Bennett, 3131 CR 201, Walnut, MS 38683.
